VMX-agility™ Soft Starter

Application Description

The Challenge

Hydrovision, a company specializing in advanced water treatment solutions, faced the need to modernize (upgrade) their motor control systems to enhance operational efficiency, reliability, and safety.

Solution

Hydrovision approached a Motortronics valued distribution partner EP Solutions. The project aimed to implement a solution that would enable smooth motor starting and stopping reducing mechanical strain and providing protection in emergency situations. The VMX-agility™ Soft Starter was installed on the fire pump and sanitary node working in conjunction with an Invertek variable Speed drive (VSD).

Motortronics International Sales Manager Giacomo Raggi and EP Solutions approached Hydrovision and a representative reported the VMX-agility™ features delivered the following solutions to existing problems:

“The smooth Starting and Stopping through Motortronics unique “3S Technology” algorithm of the VMX-agility™ enabled controlled acceleration and deceleration of the motor, reducing the risk of mechanical damage and extending equipment lifespan”.

“Water Hammer Protection: The Soft Starting and Soft Stopping function of the 3S Technology was crucial in mitigating the effects of water hammer, which is particularly important for pump applications”.

“Fire Protection Mode: This feature ensures the motor continues to operate in emergency situations, maintaining operational continuity when it is most needed”.

“Automatic Reset: Automatic fault reset functionality reduced the need for manual interventions, thereby minimizing downtime”.

“Rapid Programming: Thanks to the “i23 smart application pre-program suite” which optimises the VMX-agility™ to your precise application configuring the unit quickly to meet Hydrovision's specific needs”.

“Diagnostics and Maintenance: Detailed event logging and the functionality of “StartView MLink” software enabled predictive maintenance, reducing the risk of unexpected failures”.

Benefits

The Hydrovision representative also reported on the benefits of the implementation of the VMX-agility™ Soft Starter at Hydrovision resulted in the following:

“Increased Efficiency: Smooth Starting and Stopping reduced maintenance costs and extended the lifespan of equipment”.

“Safety: The implementation of VMX-agility™ enhanced operational safety, especially in critical situations such as fires”.

“Reduced Downtime: Automatic reset and detailed diagnostics reduced the need for service interventions, thereby minimizing downtime”.

“Cost-Effectiveness: Rapid setup and reduced need for specialized engineering time led to significant savings compared to traditional systems”.

“Efficiency and Reliability: VMX-agility™ provides stable Soft Starting and Soft Stopping ramps, reducing motor strain and increasing system reliability”.

“Safety: Special features such as fire protection (Fire Mode) and an embedded Full I²t Motor Overload with memory ensure a high level of safety”.

“Ease of Use: Rapid programming and an intuitive interface allow for easy installation and configuration”.

“Maintenance and Diagnostics: Advanced event logging and automatic reset functions reduce the need for frequent service visits, lowering maintenance costs”.

“Energy Efficiency: The integrated bypass reduces energy losses, further lowering operational costs”.

Summary

“The implementation of the VMX-agility™ Soft Starter at Hydrovision showcases the product's ability to deliver stable and efficient motor performance, as well as overload and fire protection, setting a new standard for future installations in the automation industry”.
